MyGroupEvents ("we", "us") helps you see the upcoming events from your Facebook groups in one list. This page explains what information we handle and why, in plain language.
The short version: we keep your email, a hashed password, and the groups and events you sync. We never see your Facebook password. We do not sell your data. You can delete everything from your dashboard at any time.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address and a password. We store only a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of the password, never the password itself.
- Optional: if you contact us, whatever you tell us.
Information the Chrome extension collects from Facebook, on your behalf
When you press Find my groups or Sync events, the extension opens Facebook pages in your own browser, using your own Facebook login, and reads:
- the names and Facebook IDs of the groups you belong to, and
- for the groups you choose to follow, the titles, dates and links of upcoming events.
It sends this to your MyGroupEvents account. It does not read or send your Facebook password, your messages, your friends, your posts or your profile. To tell whether you are logged in to Facebook, it only checks that a Facebook login cookie exists in your browser. It does not read or send that cookie's contents.
Information created by using the service
- Account activity log: events such as sign-up, login, confirming your email, password reset, changing your plan and deleting your account, with a time. Some entries include your email address.
- Email log: a record of the emails we send you (the type, recipient, subject and whether it was accepted for delivery).
- Last-seen time for your account.
- To limit sign-up abuse we look at your IP address to count attempts per hour. We keep that count in memory only and do not store your IP address in our database.
2. How we use it
- To run your account and show you your groups and events.
- To send you the emails you need (confirming your email address, password resets).
- To process the optional ad-free subscription.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- To show ads on the free plan (see section 4).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your Facebook group or event data to build profiles of you.
3. Who we share it with
We use a few service providers to run the site. They handle data only to provide their service to us:
- Railway, our hosting provider, stores the site and its database.
- Resend sends our emails to you.
- Lemon Squeezy handles payments for the ad-free subscription. It is the seller of record, so it collects your payment details. We never see your card number. We receive your email, subscription status and renewal dates.
- Advertising providers, if and when we turn on third-party ads (section 4).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect our rights, our users or the service.
4. Ads, cookies and similar technology
- The free plan shows ads on the dashboard. At the moment this is a message from us. If we switch on third-party advertising, we will ask you to choose between ads and non-personalized ads before any advertising code loads, and we will keep that choice in your browser (local storage key
fbew_ads_consent).
- We do not send advertisers your list of Facebook groups or events. Advertising companies may still use cookies and similar technology on your device, and you can choose non-personalized ads.
- Ads are never shown inside the Chrome extension or on Facebook.
- We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a security token to protect forms. They are needed for the site to work.
- We do not currently use analytics or tracking tools.
5. How long we keep it
- If you sign up but never confirm your email address, we delete that account after 7 days.
- We keep your account, groups and events until you delete your account. When you delete it from the dashboard, your account, groups and events are removed straight away.
- The activity log and email log are kept for security and troubleshooting and may include your email address even after you delete your account. Contact us if you want those entries removed.
- Payment records are kept by Lemon Squeezy under its own policies.
6. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account and data: use Delete account at the bottom of your dashboard.
- Stop the extension reading Facebook: remove it at
chrome://extensions.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete information we hold about you, or to remove log entries, by emailing us (section 9). If you live in the European Economic Area, the UK or California, you may have additional legal rights to access, correct, delete or port your data. We will respond as the law requires.
7. Security
The site is served over https. Passwords are hashed. Access to the admin tools is limited. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
8. Children
MyGroupEvents is not for children under 13, and you must be old enough to use Facebook in your country. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Contact
Questions or requests about privacy: hello@mygroupevents.com.
10. Not affiliated with Facebook
MyGroupEvents is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Facebook or Meta Platforms, Inc. Facebook is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant we will tell you on the site or by email.
